For a really long time, and I consider myself unacceptable, I needed a backpack in order to carry my laptop from place to place, to go to the university and to find my partners for collaborations and work, etc. I obviously had one, the bulky black laptop shoulder bag, and as a result, every long [even short, sometimes] distance became into a small and annoying nightmare! I was lucky enough with the trends’ timing and now that comfort and casual has become a thing, backpacks are everywhere.
It’s not that I was waiting for a “cool” fashion trend to come up in order for me to make the decision, but the variety of the designs, the lines, the colours and the fabrics that came up, made it easier. After some research, and while I was constantly preventing myself from buying something smaller [without room or case for a laptop] and much more expensive, and yes I had to say no to Stella McCartney, Alexander Wang and Elizabeth and James, although I still have them in my mind and in my future future future shopping plans, I ran into the Matt&Nat company. I don’t mean to spend an entire post advertising them, but this piece is absolutely incredible. I got the DEAN in black and it is vegan leather, there is a zipper pocket on the front and two smaller ones on the sides, a laptop compartment inside and a small zipper pocket as well. It is spacious enough for all the laptop equipment, notebook, pens, even for a light jacket.
I wanted to highlight the backpack in this outfit, so I chose minimal pieces again, but interesting enough to support the total look. The top with the cut-outs adds a noisy but strict touch, whereas the simple black pair of shorts and white sandals keep the outcome simple, elegant and minimal.
I guess there used to be a point of view, where each item, according to its use through the day and to its purpose, was supposed to be worn or carried specific hours of the day and at specific events. Some codes still count, buuut nowadays it is more about owning your style, grabbing your codes and expressing them with every possible way. And eventually, the outcome stays true, unforced and -I wanna say- believable, because almost every time it is the people’s very opinion that supports it and makes it better. In other words, don’t hesitate, and wear your favourite pieces [backpacks, t-shirts, sweaters, sneakers etc.] wherever you want!
